Educator · Builder · Founder of Plato's Grove

Building the academy I wish existed — free, rigorous, and open to every learner.

Over 30 years as an educator and software developer, I've built learning tools for the students most systems leave behind. My goal: launch a comprehensive, free K–12 homeschool academy in 2029 — deeply embedded with AI, classical philosophy, and the inductive pedagogy that took 100% non-white, 92% economically disadvantaged students from 8% to 73% Algebra proficiency — the 10th best score in all of California.

Three Constellations

Three Disciplines, One Mission

Mathematics, software engineering, and athletics — united by a commitment to human development and the deployment of tools that actually work in the real world.

Mathematics Educator

M.A. in Education Technology. Created FlexMath, a complete software ecosystem for teaching Algebra to underserved learners. Served as district-wide Math Director, mentor-teacher, and instructional coach supporting schools across CA, WA, and DC. Produced the highest documented NCLB-era achievement gains in California.

Forward Deployment Engineer

Full-stack developer since 1996 (original NOAA/NMFS website). Fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, ActionScript, Unity, and Unreal. Backed by 5 AI certifications (Microsoft, IBM, Google, AWS, DeepLearning.AI) and an agentic AI workflow using Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google tools — shattering the old "Good, Fast, Cheap: pick two" limitation. I deliver all three.

Tennis Professional

Owner of Evolution Tennis Academy in Meridian, Idaho. Built CourtKraken, a custom CRM platform for managing the academy. Developed the website and software driving the pedagogical experience for our players. USPTA #83949 · PTR #117513.

The FlexMath Impact

Two records. Each one shattered the last.

California Department of Education STAR Testing data (2003–2013) documents two successive records across multiple Bay Area schools serving 100% non-white, predominantly economically disadvantaged students.

Record 1 · LPS Hayward · 2009

13% (2006)56%

The staircase: 13% when I arrived → 23% in 2008 through team alignment, classroom management, and intensive PD (beating the 20% state average) → then FlexMath landed, and scores exploded to 56% in a single year. Neighboring school: 3%. Top 100 CA high schools in Algebra.

Record 2 · LPS Richmond · 2011 🏆

8% (2006)73%

Kennedy HS & Richmond HS across town: 3% and 5%. LPS Richmond ranked Top 10 in all of California for Algebra.

Forward Deployment Engineering

Powerful technology, deployed where it creates maximum impact

Bridging the gap between engineering capability and real-world transformation.

What is an FDE?

A Forward Deployment Engineer operates at the intersection of software development, customer success, and domain expertise. Unlike traditional engineers who work in isolation on product features, FDEs deploy directly into the field — understanding the user's world, building solutions in real-time, and ensuring technology delivers measurable outcomes.

This is precisely what I've done for 20 years: building software tools and deploying them into classrooms, academies, and businesses — then measuring the results with hard data.

My FDE Workflow

Agentic AI Integration. Backed by 5 industry AI certifications (Microsoft, IBM, Google, AWS, DeepLearning.AI), I work with tools from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, and Google (Gemini) as an integrated part of my development workflow.

Good, Fast, AND Cheap. The old adage that in software you can only pick two — shattered by AI-integrated workflows. I deliver all three: high quality, rapid iteration, and cost efficiency.

Domain-First Engineering. Every product starts with deep domain knowledge — whether it's how 9th graders learn algebra, how a tennis academy schedules courts, or how students learn to code. The technology serves the domain, not the other way around.

Plato's Grove — circuit-tree and torch emblem

The Bigger Vision · Where the Night Meets the Day

Plato's Grove

"From the Swamp to the Stars"

My career goal is to develop a complete free homeschool academy in the model of Plato's original Academy — the one Justinian forcefully closed in 529 AD. Plato's Grove opens in 2029, exactly 1,500 years after that suppression, to reignite the philosopher's dream of enlightenment through education and self-examination.

Students don't read about the trebuchet — they build one. They don't study the telegraph — they wire one. The Five Ages curriculum mirrors humanity's own journey through knowledge: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Electromagnetism, Quantum Physics — logarithmically compressed, hands-on, and free for every learner.

Let's Build Something

Whether it's AI-integrated software, a tennis team, or the school of the future — I'm ready to talk.
